Hello!!

I´m Maria, I´m 22 years old, I´m in Vilnius for an Erasmus Exchange and I love play football. I started to play football when I was a child, when I remember my childhood I always was playing a football, so a ball helped me to meet new people, cities, players,... Because in general football means something else than a sport; playing with more people on a field it´s a way to freedom for me, it doesn´t stressful because you only are focused on play not your problems, and it´s also a healthy way to spent you free time. In the moment that I decided to went to Erasmus Exchange I was totally sure that I wanted to keep playing football in my new country.

I guess you are thinking about how I found to my lithuanian team; well, my mentor is Ieva Vaitkunskaite and she told me that she was playing football in a team, so I decided to ask her if I could play with them and she was agree (she had to ask to her coach but there were no problems); I think it´s easy to enter in a lithuanian team for practice an sport, that´s the story easy and quick. But If you are interested to play in this team or other lithuanian team you can contact with your faculty, or mentor, or Facebook. My team is called "MFA Zalgiris", It´s a official team which competes in the lithuanian female football league; we play every weekend against girls for move up position on the ranking. The weather is very different to my country but for me it´s an advantage, because playing outside in the lithuanian condition is totally new, and sometimes funny ( I mean with snow).

It´s the time to talk about my expirience playing in this team. I must say that the beginings always are hard, because it´s a totally a new situation, I mean, I get expierence in new teams but this moment was completely different for me. After a couple of weeks the girls started to ask me and worried about me, and I began to get in on the group. I´m not going to lay, on the begining was difficult because the coach doesn´t speak english, so in the trainings they talk in lithuanian, but if i don´t understand something (a sport activity, the strategy) they try to translate to english. I´m a shy person, so probably it was harder for me the begining; I play as a goalkeeper and in this individual position you must be more open mind and friendly. But now I´m so happy for play with this girls and can live the expirience to play football in another country.

Now we are playing an italian girl and me (the first semester there was a german girl but she came back to her country); so this the prove that foreign and erasmus people can play with native persons. I think discover the erasmus expirience through sport and lithuanians give me the possibility to understand some points of view that in other situations you don´t have the choice to know it. I do not regret for have decided to play in this team, I´m lucky for live the experience and took that amazing oportunity. The sport can join different people and in mi case it´s totally true.

I encourage to erasmus students for take a risky chance, because we always regret the decisions we didn´t take, so be brave and do it!!
